Focus group Burnout......
This past week has shown me that not only can you (maybe) become a professional Focus Group Participant, but there are in fact people sitting at home behind their computers making untold amounts of money from these companies. When I started and completed my first focus group last year at this time, it seemed almost impossible to get into the groups, I figured that there were only a few select people that ever got called for them. The last 4 weeks has taught me that if you apply, and feel out the initial survey there's a good chance that you could qualify.
Never before have I been in a position when I'm starting to turn down Focus Groups. Why? Well because it has become a little too much for me personally. Sometimes they are scheduled for the same day, or sometimes I just forget that I scheduled something for that day. I suppose if I used a calendar it might help me a little more, but since I'm not good at keeping a calender I've just been trying to remember things off of memory.
Take this scenario for instance, in the past two weeks I've qualified for four phone interviews, a Online Focus group about video games, a Study on people who wear socks, and a study on people who use personal lubricants. I later went back and turned the last two studies down. One I'd like to have some personal time to myself, and two this really is feeling like a part time job now. Not that I really mind that. But when you find yourself checking e-mail literally all day, and night, while checking your cell phone for invitations to new surveys/studies there comes time for little else. You find that being a big part of your day. That's not including the phone calls you'll receive when they try to qualify for a study.
My conclusion at this time is this. There are thousands of companies out there who will pay you for your time. Prove yourself to just one company, and you could be set for a long time. With all the companies that are out there if you really put the work into it, you could make a decent amount of money on a weekly basis. You don't want to burn yourself out, but when you see the first check, or Paypal payment come into your account you may just get the Focus group bug. If you'd like some companies to start with you can always e-mail me.
And please remember that a legitimate Survey company, or Focus group company will never ask for you Credit Card number, Social Security Number, or anything of that nature.
Well until next time folks......
