It was a rather good week........
Just wanted to come on and update the blog with the latest news on the Focus Group that I recently completed. In fact more of my time is dedicated to finding on-line focus groups these days. Their far easier, and generally don't require much time at all.
I took part in my in person interview on Friday. The researcher called me 15mins before he showed up which was okay with me. What wasn't okay was the fact that half the electric went off in the house 5 minutes before he arrived. Not only that, but I was going to be interviewed by two people. Whatever I thought to myself if they can deal with it I can as well.
They arrived at 9:45a.m. and I did my best to explain the situation to them. They were okay with it, and after finding a working outlet that a lamp could be plugged into we started the interview. I have to say I'm not a big fan of being interviewed on camera by a Focus/Marketing company. While they tell you that the video is for research purposes, and that no one outside of their office will see it, you just never know.
We sat in the dining room and began with the pictures of snack foods I had been asked to take in part one of the research. Apparently I had taken a lot of pictures and it was noted by the researcher. Quickly I found out that we would be discussing each and every one of the pictures I had taken. This was going to be a long process I thought. Though in all fairness the interview was scheduled to last 2 1/2 hours.
After discussing the pictures I had taken they wanted to see how we store snacks in the house. They took pictures of the snacks we had on hand at the house, different cabinet storage areas, the refrigerator, and so on. At the end of the interview we actually wrapped up a little early. I was done by 11:15a.m. And really you can't beat $300 for so little of your time.
While in the future I would consider doing this type of Focus Group, it would be one of the last types of Focus Groups I would apply to first. This project in particular was fun though due to the way it was broken down into two parts. One part that was completed online, and then the in home interview. I also believe that one part of the project was to be watched shopping at a Supermarket to see your shopping habits. Though I wasn't asked to do that for some reason.
Well until next time folks......
